Word on the Street

"The Glory" is an immersive and humanizing biopic that knows its subject well and shows the important historical context that surrounded him. The world of fashion design and war seem many lengths apart, but the script shows us both without coming across as unnatural or jarring, and it all works together in the totality of one extraordinary individual's life. Christian Dior makes a strong impression, another important fashion icon who knows his stuff and how to articulate it. Christian's dialogue is some of the most eloquent and meaningful in the script, and he dominates his scenes. The script is clear about all the torment and challenges Yves is facing, within and without, as the war rages and he faces more than one kind of prejudice. It can be overwhelming, but Yves has tenacity as well as his imagination and hard work that we can admire. For the story of Yves himself as well as the perspective on these historical events, it's an engaging experience.
